Experiences Airbnb (www.airbnb.co.cr/s/costa-rica/experiences) is a new website where the US company lists 50 different leisure activities in Costa Rica.
According to Shawn Sullivan, Airbnb’s public relations director in Central America and the Caribbean, tourists and Costa Ricans can rediscover the country in a completely different way by getting together with local families who show their farms and favorite places and share family recipes, favorite foods and locals customs with visitors.
Local providers determine their own prices: 80 percent is for them, 20 percent goes to Airbnb.
The site currently offers 50 different activities, among them a gastronomic tour in San José, surf lessons, yoga classes, and a visit to a coffee plantation.
The cost for activities range from 9000 to 100,000 colones per person.
Costa Rica is the first country in Central America where the company offers this kind of tourism activity.
