Starting today, the German airline Lufthansa is flying every Thursday and Saturday nonstop from Frankfurt to San Jose, Costa Rica.
This makes Lufthansa the tenth airline to announce its arrival on Costa Rican soil in the last two years.
Southwest, Alaska Airlines, WestJet, Volaris, Tui Thompson, British Air, Air France and Edelweiss had announced their arrival between 2015 and 2016, with KLM and LATAM joining last year.
From May 2018, the Portuguese airline Orbest (a subsidiary of the Spanish Evelop Airlines) will fly directly from Lisbon to San Jose.
SATA Açores Airlines, another Portuguese airline, announced plans to fly directly to Liberia (Guanacaste).
